How Hazard XP Works
Hazards in Pathfinder 2e contribute XP to encounters based on their level and complexity. Simple hazards provide half the XP of a creature of the same level, while complex hazards provide full XP.
🪤 Simple Hazards
XP: Half creature XP (10-80 XP)
Examples: Pit traps, poison darts, falling rocks
Usage: One-time obstacles or environmental dangers
⚙️ Complex Hazards
XP: Full creature XP (20-160 XP)
Examples: Collapsing rooms, magical wards, elaborate traps
Usage: Multi-round encounters with initiative
Using Hazards in Encounters
- Add hazard XP to monster XP for total encounter difficulty
- Simple hazards work well as encounter openers or complications
- Complex hazards can serve as the main threat in an encounter
- Consider environmental storytelling when placing hazards
